Information You Should Have on Your Website
Your website is a place users go to find information. It may be about an event, place, service, or how to contact you. Your website should be easy to navigate and supply the user with all the information they are looking for. When building or making changes to your website, make sure you have the following information on your website.
A Clear Description
The first piece of information you should have on your website is a clear description. If a user randomly lands on your website, they should be able to quickly understand what it is that your company does. If the user does not know the purpose of your website or they find it difficult to find information, it is likely they will leave. It’s really easy to click that little X in the top right corner of the tab or the browser window.
An Organized Navigation
Next, your website’s navigation feature should be organized. A conscious effort must be made to avoid mystery meat navigation (MMN). Make sure you clearly represent the information you have in the navigation bar and make sure it is easily accessible. Users need to be able to navigate your website smoothly. If your navigation is unorganized to begin with, you have too much hidden information, or there are too many dead-end paths, users will become frustrated and leave.
Contact Information
Your contact information should be VERY accessible on your website. If you have your contact information in multiple places, it is easier for the user to find it. You should list your information in at least two places, like on a contact page and in the footer. Most websites today will also have the address, phone number, and email links in the header above the hero and main navigation.
Links to Social Media
The next piece of information you should have on your website is linked to your social media pages, like Facebook and Instagram. When you have your social media linked, it gives users other ways to follow you, instead of getting back on your website when they think about it. If you are active on social media, use it to your advantage! Leverage the power of these platforms and give users every opportunity to engage with your company on these outlets.
Customer Reviews
Finally, make sure you have quality customer reviews on your website. Honest reviews are an important piece of information for new customers. After reading a positive review, visitors are more likely to convert, whether that is by purchasing an item, visiting your store, or contacting you.
